Now I just need al the other bits to turn it into a computer.

*epeen intensifies* what other parts are you planning on getting

How can you live with only 12 cores?

Plan is 32GB DDR4, 512GB NVME SSD, and 2070 Super. I’m still arguing with myself over motherboard form factor and case.

Don’t worry, I have 32 more at work.

Oh that facial expression really sells it. 'Get your own, buddy!'

sleeper case! also take a look at the HP EX950 NVMe SSD... that’s what I’m using right now and it’s blazing fast

Not out yet and 4 more cores isn’t worth 50% more to me. I got a good deal on it with the cooler and Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds so I’m happy.

Is $250 more and only gets me 4 more cores.

I’m probably going to end up buying one of the Intel drives we have at my work at wholesale. That or pick up something cheap for Black Friday.

You’ll need this display when the CPU boosts the clock rate:

Ooooo, 1TB for $124

I do wish I still had the Athlon x2 Gateway that was my first gaming PC. That would make a cool sleeper case.

I didn’t know AMD made good things
Th ough I also know very very very little about computers. So there’s t hat.

AMD is absolutely murdering Intel right now performance wise. Intel has really slacked off the last couple years and it’s biting them now that AMD has caught up.

Ryzen is pretty good chip. The Ryzen 3XXX series (non-G models) is really good. When I bought by i7-8700k in 2018 things were a tossup, with Intel still beating AMD in single threaded performance but AMD delivering the cores. Now though AMD is right there with Intel while still offering more cores. They are in the best position they’ve been in since at least the early 2000s, and possibly ever. Intel has had a lot of problems with their manufacturing tech (which has traditionally been a strength), and it’s put them in a bad position.

It kind of blows my mind how much power you can get in a computer these days compared to just 3 years ago.
![]() 11/15/2019 at 21:42 |

More cores in this single processor than all of my previous computers combined.

I mean, I probably have over 100 cores on my desk at work. When you work at an industrial PC company you tend to end up with piles of processors.

Had one not too long ago... And returned it.

Haha, nice! (I can request upwards of 5000 cores for my analysis work , but will never get a 1/10th of them)
